Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten. This is the dragon that greets you at the front door at Ian's new school!

Well, the day has come! He is so big...and he knows it! Today Isabelle and I took Ian to his first day of Kindergarten. He was happy to see one of his soccer buddies there. They lined right up and got ready to walk down to the classroom together. He was fully prepared with his glue sticks and pencils and a loaf of zuchini bread for his teacher. (I know you think I am a kiss-up, but there is nothing wrong with starting off on the teachers good side!!!)

Ian walked in a line to his classroom. He walked right in without the slightest hesitation. He handed the bread to his teacher and found a seat with his buddy Karl.

He and Karl joined right in with the other kids and built blocks and listened to the directions from the teacher on how their backpacks fit onto their chairbacks. I had a hard time walking away. It all happened so fast. I didn't get a hug or a kiss or even a wave. I finally called out his name from the doorway so that I could at least say goodbye. He waved ever so quickly and then continued building blocks! You better believe that I will look at him a little differently tonight and that I will hold on a little longer when I tell him goodnight!
Congratulations Ian! You are growing up to be a fine little man!

Meet and Greet

This morning we got to go visit Isabelle's preschool to drop of paperwork and meet her teacher. The truth of the matter is that we already know her teacher. Mrs. Atkinson was Ian's teacher when he was three also! There is a certain comfort level in knowing her already. Somehow I think it makes it a little bit easier to start this journey. Actually I think it because I knew the school, I knew the teacher,I knew how they do things at the school, it might have made me a little too comfortable. I focused so much on Ian transitioning to Kindergarten, that I nearly forgot about her new adventure in preschool.
I had watched her walk up the ramp to "Ian's school" every morning last year. She loved going into the building and dropping him off and visiting with the teachers. But today was different! Today she walked up that ramp with her backpack (that is almost as big as she is) hanging from her back with a new determination. This was HER school now. She was so excited. She walked right into her room and was so excited to be there. She was a little disappointed to figure out that we weren't staying all day. She is very ready to go back on Thursday for her first real day of school!

Mrs. Atkinson and her newest little assistant!

Isabelle was thrilled to be able to help her teacher get the classroom ready for school! She lined up all of the teddy bears with their letters on them and handed them to Mrs. Atkinson in order. I am sure Mrs. Atkinson was grateful for the help!

The big day!

It seems that we have been waiting for this day for a very long time, and yet it managed to sneak up on us suddenly. This morning felt like any other morning at our house, and yet it was completely different. You see, my kids grew up a little bit while they were sleeping last night. It caught me by surprise this morning.
Actually I started to see it coming last night. Those of you that know my husband know that he likes to joke around. He has always liked to joke with me about how quickly the kids are growing up. He knows it gets to me in a way that nothing else does. When the kids were only days old, he would say "He is almost one already!" The day after Isabelle turned two, he said, "She is almost three." Well, I think I got him back last night. Isabelle was giving him a very tight hug last night and he seemed to be enjoying it. I told him, "Hold on tight Daddy, she grows up tomorrow...I mean, she is practically married." He smacked my leg in disgust. How could I say such a thing. The bad part is that it has haunted me more since I said it than I think it will ever bother him.
So let me introduce you to these big kids that now live in our house!

This is Ian. He is five, going on 25. He sure thinks he has this world figured out! He is looking forward to having afternoon Kindergarten, because it will give him the opportunity to "practice" for school each morning before he goes. Ian is my emotionally sensitive one. He is a perfectionist, an engineer, an eager learner and has a beautiful heart. My prayer for him this year is that he will make many new friends, learn many lessons and that the light in his heart will shine brightly for all those that he encounters!

This is Isabelle. She is 2...going on 13. She is girly girl through and through. She loves shoes, purses, and phones, but also enjoys jumping right in to play Transformers with Ian. She loves her big brother more than anything else. She tries to do everything just like him. She is my independant child. She enjoys having her bubble of personal space around her. She doesn't know the meaning of "can't." She is willing to try anything. My prayer for her this year is that she will make new friends, learn all that she can and that she will share her love and smile with everyone around her!

Final days of summer

David was able to get a day off last week so that we could take the kids up to Busch Gardens. They have such a good time there. Ian discovered that he is tall enough (BARELY!) to ride on some of this bigger rides now. He rode on his first roller coaster! David got to go with him, but he has promised that I can go with him next time! It is so hard to believe that he is so big now!

Ian and David on the Battering Ram. I remember loving this ride as a kid. Ian started off very confident, but if you look closely you will see the death grip that he had on David as the ride went on! He was all smiles afterwards!

While the big boys were on some big rides, Isabelle rode on one of her favorite rides...the hangliders! Ian was quite disappointed that we had done that one without him though, so we had to go back. It seems he is in that wierd in between stage where he wants to be big, but doesn't want to give up being little either. I think that is fine...as long as he had a good time.

Family Night

Last night we had a fun family night at the bowling alley. The kids had a great time! They thought they were so big!

Isabelle was so excited! She picked the ball right up and was ready to roll! She was even more excited when we told her that she could roll twice!

Ian acted like a pro! He learned how to put his fingers in the ball. This is the first time he has ever been able to hold the ball that way. He was ready to go PRO!

Isabelle showed such enthusiasm every time she knocked down even one pin! She would watch very intently as the ball made its way down the lane. Then she would run back to us and report her accomplishments!

Ian...The pro!

Anyone that knows Ian will not be surprised by this picture. Almost as exciting as the bowling itself is the screen that shows the scores, the speed of the ball as it goes down the lane, which pins you have left up, etc...VERY EXCITING!!!

Sandbox Time

From afar, everything looked alright. The kids were outside enjoying the sandbox together. Daddy had just put new sand in it for them and they were eager to get in!They played for quite a while before I went out to check on them. (why interupt them when they are getting along so well?)

As I got closer, I realized that there was something wrong with this picture!!! The kids looked like they were covered in chalk. This new sand was more like chalk!

It didn't seem to be bothering them! They were having a great time.

I figured they were already covered...I may as well let them keep playing!

Later that evening, I asked David where he got the sand for the sandbox. He looked at me like I was crazy. "You did get PLAY sand, didn't you???" I asked. His reply???
"They make play sand?"

OH DEAR!
